What it is
Austin Gem & Mineral Society is a nonprofit Austin, Texas gem, mineral, and lapidary club founded in 1950. Its About page motto is “Each One, Teach One,” and its stated purpose is to instill a love and understanding of the geological sciences and associated lapidary arts through classes, field trips, meetings, workshops, lectures, school outreach, exhibits, and an annual show. Members get clubhouse workshop access (lapidary/cabbing, faceting, slab shack saws, library, displays), Special Interest Groups (including Lapidary, Faceting, Mineral, Paleo, Silversmithing, and Jewelry SIGs), member-only field trips, and the annual Gem Capers show. It is not a commercial lapidary supply shop and not a standalone week-long residential teaching school.
Who it’s for
Rock hounds, mineral collectors, lapidary hobbyists, jewelry makers, students, and Central Texas enthusiasts who want club fellowship, monthly general meetings with speakers, SIG workshops, member field trips, and eligibility for clubhouse lapidary / faceting resources. Membership page: community of over 350 gem and mineral enthusiasts in the Austin and Central Texas area. Visitors are always welcome at AGMS General Meetings (in person or Zoom); workshop classes and many clubhouse resources are framed as membership benefits.
